Live Well, Work Well

The everyday choices we make can help us live healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives—both at work and at home. The intent of this site is to arm you with tools and resources you can use to continue your quest for a healthier lifestyle. Haven’t started yet?  No worries, it’s never too late to adopt change.

I. Healthy Choices

Once again, my child has convinced me to purchase another kitchen gadget. What is it this time, you ask? A spiralizer? You know, the tool that turns vegetables into “pasta”. I put this purchase off for as long as I could, but she wore me down. I am now the proud owner of an OXO

Spiralizer I have had this tool for a few weeks now, and I must admit, I am into it. While zucchini will never replace a good carb-laden pasta, it can be just as delicious. So far we have feasted on cold spicy ginger noodles, zucchini garlic butter sauté and apple and cabbage slaw. Next up - crispy oven baked sweet potato shoe-string fries.

This very well could be one of the few new gadgets we actually use more than a few times. Check out Cooking Light to find your inspiration.

Not into spiralizing? Don’t worry, I have some spring recipe ideas for you too!

II. Fitness Matters

A new season brings new challenges. I am always interested to see what’s going on in fitness. At times, I find the trends a little too daring for my fitness level (remember kangaroo jumps?), but more often than not, I can find something to inspire me to push myself a little more.

HIIT, wearable technology and strength training continue to be popular with fitness professionals. However, the latest trends focus on slowing things down a bit by going old-school and increasing the length of workout. Also, big this season is the concept of self-limiting movement. This involves using more muscle groups, with possibly less reps. The key to this technique is perfect form.

III. Seasonal Recipes

This season, we are all about the Dutch Baby. I am not sure why this recipe has become so popular, but I suspect it has a lot to do with versatility, low cost ingredients and simplicity. The Washington Post recently featured sweet and savory options. But don’t stop here. Let your creativity run wild and create your own masterpiece.
