Dr. Carl Hunt
Senior Analyst

  • Dr. Carl Hunt has over 40 years experience in civil and military law enforcement, specializing in cyberspace operations and security, as well as general criminal investigations and crime analysis. 
  • Dr. Hunt served 30 years in the Army both as a military policeman and as an information systems technology officer, retiring from active duty service at the rank of Colonel. His assignments included service as the J-9, Director of Technology and Analysis for the United States Strategic Command’s Joint Task Force – Global Network Operations (JTF-GNO), and as the commander of the US Army Criminal Investigation Command’s Computer Crime Investigative Unit. He also served a variety of assignments as a Houston, Texas police officer.
  • Dr. Hunt is also the Owner and Chief Scientist of Pioneer Cyberspace Strategies, LLC, Lewes, DE. He served as the senior scientist for the USAF Institute of Technology’s 2012-13 American Cyberspace Science, Education and Operations Initiative and as the founding partner in the Science Enhanced Network Domains and Secure Social Spaces project (SENDS), co-sponsored by AFIT and multiple US Government agencies.
  • He has served on the AFIT Center for Cyberspace Research’s Distinguished Review Board since 2004. As a Staff Researcher for the Institute of Defense Analyses, Dr. Hunt was also the editor and co-author of the US Strategic Command-sponsored study on Deterring Violent Non-State Actors in Cyberspace completed in 2009. He currently works as a part-time consultant to the MITRE Corporation in McLean, VA and with National Training and Development, Inc., Houston, TX, as a leadership and management consultant for the NASA Johnson Space Center.
  • Dr. Hunt holds the Ph.D. in Information Technology from George Mason University and is a graduate of the United States National War College. He has published numerous papers, articles and weblogs about the socio-technological convergence our nation and the world are experiencing in the cyberspace environment.
  • Dr. Hunt was also the primary editor and contributor to the SENDS Science of Cyberspace weblog, and continues to lecture on the nature of information technology and science in the United States. He is currently the principle author of the Reconnecting to the American Promise weblog.
